55 MW Likhu-2 Hydropower Project Commences Trial Production

July 21, 2023 | Investopaper

The Likhu-2 hydropower project, constructed by the Dugad Group, has commenced its trial production. The project harnesses the power of the Likhu River, which flows along the border of Ramechhap and Solukhumbu districts.

During the initial testing phase, the Likhu-2 hydropower project has successfully produced approximately 20 megawatts of electricity. The project holds a total capacity of 55 megawatts.

However, it has come to light that the project currently faces a minor challenge. The transformer at the sub-station of Manthali Municipality 13 Sankhe, managed by the Nepal Electricity Authority, needs to be replaced before the Likhu-2 project can deliver electricity at its full capacity of 55 megawatts. Until the transformer replacement is completed, the project cannot achieve its maximum electricity transmission potential.

The transformer replacement is anticipated to be finished within the next few days. Once this essential upgrade is completed, the Likhu-2 project will be able to supply electricity at its full capacity. The project management is keen on swiftly resolving this matter to ensure efficient electricity transmission.

Looking ahead, once the Likhu-2 project successfully completes its testing phase, it is projected that commercial production will commence in approximately two weeks.

The Likhu A hydropower project, also developed by the Dugad Group, has already been contributing 28 megawatts of electricity to the Sankhe substation through the same transmission line.
