Additional Rs 5 billion Budget Demanded In Agriculture

The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development has demanded an additional budget of Rs 5 Arba for agriculture. The Ministry of Finance has set a ceiling of Rs. 36.23 Arba in agriculture for the fiscal year 2078/79.

The Ministry of Agriculture has demanded the Ministry of Finance to increase the budget saying that the budget has been reduced as per the set ceiling. In the current fiscal year, Rs. 41.40 Arba budget has been allocated in agriculture including the budget for Agricultural Development Bank. The budget of the Agriculture Development Bank is Rs 4 Arba. 

The additional budget is needed for new schemes such as making electronic maps for measuring the quality of soil, collecting details of farmers, purchasing fertilizers in time to prevent shortage of chemical fertilizers and preparing the necessary infrastructure for storage, said the ministry.

The government has announced to become self-reliant in agriculture within five years.
