Amazon founder Jeff Bezos will visit India next week for a company event. Besides, he is also expected to meet with the government officials during his visit. The Amazon event will be organized in the capital city, New Delhi. The event is being organized to connect with small and medium-sized enterprises in the country. The details of Bezos’s visit are still unknown as Amazon has also not confirmed the visit.

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) which is a group representing 70 million brick and mortar retailers has stated that it will protest against Bezos during his stay in India. CAIT has accused Amazon and Walmart owned Flipkart for providing huge discounts and for defying India’s foreign investment rules. Both of them have denied the allegations and added that it instead provides a platform to create business opportunities for thousands of small entrepreneurs although CAIT is not convinced by it.

The group secretary, Praveen Khandelwal said that the trade group will organize a rally in major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata by mobilizing 100,000 traders in the protest. Large online discounts were previously discouraged by New Delhi Government through the introduction of new rules to protect 130 million people dependent on the small scale retail business.
