Demand for Electricity to Increase to 2,000 MW: NEA

Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has projected that the current demand for electricity will increase to 2,000 MW in the next six months. The demand will increase to 2,000 MW by 2079 BS as the consumption of electricity is also increasing along with the increase in domestic production.

The peak demand for electricity has increased by an average of 300 MW this year as compared to last year, according to the NEA. The peak demand for electricity distributed through NEA’s system on Mangsir 27 was 1539 MW.  This demand is 322 MW more than the same day last year. Last year, the peak demand for this day was 1217 MW. The peak demand for electricity has increased by 26.5 percent in one year.

Based on the demand for energy, the electricity consumption as of Mangsir 27 was 27.2 million units. This consumption is 6.1 million units more than 21.1 million units on the same day last year. Thus, the electricity consumption is 28.65 percent higher than last year.

NEA is working accordingly with the policy of increasing the use of electronic equipment and providing as much electricity as needed to the industries to increase consumption.
