National Life Insurance Company Limited  (NLICL) was incorporated in 1988 A.D.  It is one of the oldest life insurance companies in Nepal. It was formerly known as National life & General Insurance Co. Ltd.). As per the direction of Beema Samiti, National Life & General Insurance Company was divided into National Life Insurance and NLG Insurance Company (a non-life insurance company) in order to separately conduct life and non-life insurance business. The general public possesses a 35 percent share in the company.

National Life Insurance has distributed decent returns to the shareholders over the years. The dividend has ranged from 13.5 percent to a maximum of 72.5 percent.
