Finance Minister Janardan Sharma has resigned.

After the commencement of the House of Representatives meeting held on Wednesday, the Speaker informed the House that a committee has been formed to investigate the remarks made against the Ministry of Finance.

The committee has a mandate to investigate and submit a report to the parliament within 10 days. The Parliamentary Committee has been asked to prepare a report with recommendations after investigating the issue of ‘unauthorized persons entering in the fiscal bill of 2079/80 to manipulate tax rates’.

Sharma is accused of manipulating the tax rate by involving unauthorized persons in the budget writing and to make the CCTV footage inside the finance ministry disappear after the issue came out.

While addressing the House of Representatives, the finance minister announced his resignation saying that he will fully support the inquiry and will not remain in office.

Earlier, the main opposition party CPN-UML had been demanding the resignation of the finance minister.
