Key Financial Indicators of Commercial Banks of Nepal (With Ranking)

The commercial banks of Nepal are in the process of publishing their fourth quarter report (Ashad end, 2076). All the banks have published their performance report until the Chaitra end, 2075 (Mid April 2019). Let’s look into the key financial indicators of commercial banks of Nepal. It is based on the unaudited report until the Chaitra end.

Here we look into four major financial indicators of commercial banks of Nepal which are:
—Deposits
—Loans
—CCD Ratio
—Non-Performing Loans (NPL)
Total Deposits:
Until Chaitra end, commercial banks have collected the total deposits of Rs. 2,716.44 billion. NIC Asia Bank Limited leads the banking sector in terms of deposit collection with Rs. 178.10 billion. Rastriya Banijya Bank, a government-owned bank, is a close second with deposits of Rs. 175.70 billion. Nabil Bank and Nepal Investment Bank, pioneer of private banks occupy the 3rd and 4th spot with Rs. 153.68 and Rs. 143.49 billion in deposits.

Total Loans:
The commercial banks floated the loans and advances of Rs. 2,441.30 billion until the Chaitra end. Rastriya Banijya Bank occupies the top spot with Rs. 140.43 billion in loans. NIC Asia Bank has Rs. 139.36 billion in loans and advances. Likewise, Nabil Bank occupies the third spot with loans and advances of Rs. 131.18 billion.

CCD Ratio:
CCD ratio is the measure of available loanable funds in the bank. Lower CCD ratio indicates that there is more fund available for the credit. The average CCD ratio of commercial banks is 77.73 percent. Rastriya Banijya Bank has the lowest CCD ratio with 71.38 percent. Likewise, Nepal Investment Bank occupies the second spot with 76.01 percent. Similarly, Prabhu Bank ranks third with the CCD ratio of 76.19 percent.

Non-Performing Loans (NPL):
Non-Performing Loans (NPL) is another major indicator of performance analysis of commercial banks. Lower NPL reflects the higher quality of lending. On the other hand, higher NPL is due to poor lending quality. The average NPL of commercial banks of Nepal is 1.67 percent. Sanima Bank is number one based on the NPL with 0.12 percent. Likewise, Everest Bank has the NPL of 0.18 percent. Nepal SBI Bank is the close third with 0.19 percent NPL.
