India Extends Lockdown Until May 3

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended the current lockdown period until May 3. Addressing the nation on Tuesday, the prime minister has decided to extend the lockdown stating that it was imperative in order to contain the pandemic.

Previously, the Indian Government had enforced a 21-day lock down period. The lockdown was started from March 25 and going to end on April 14.

In the last month, the government declared a Rs. 1.7 lakh crore package for providing relief to the people most impacted by the lockdown.

Despite the lock down, the number of cases infected from COVID-19 has surged recently. More than 358 people have died in India with the total cases surpassing 10,000.
