Paddy Production Declines by 8.74 Percent

Paddy production, in the current fiscal year 2078/79, has declined to the lowest in five years.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, paddy production has declined by 8.74 percent in the current fiscal year as compared to the previous fiscal year 2077/78. In the current fiscal year, 51.30 lakh metric tons of paddy has been produced. In the previous year, about 56.21 lakh metric tons of paddy was produced.
Similarly, the paddy production stood at 55.50 lakh metric tonnes in the fiscal year 2076/77, 56.10 lakh metric tons in the fiscal year 2075/76, and 51.59 lakh metric tons in the fiscal year 2074/75.
The paddy production in the far-western state has declined significantly compared to the last fiscal year. The state has produced 441,913 metric tonnes of paddy. Production has declined by 31.49 percent compared to last year.
In the current fiscal year, the unseasonal rains have damaged 4.24 metric tonnes of paddy planted in 111,609 hectares across the country, according to the ministry. All provinces, except Gandaki, have reported a decline in paddy production.
