Upper Marsyangdi-1 Hydropower Project is being constructed on the Marsyangdi River in Lamjung. Upper Marsyangdi Hydropower Company Pvt. Ltd is constructing the project. The project is a Run-of-river type with an installed capacity of 102 MW.
The dam area of the project will be at Marsyangdi-4, Ram Bazaar, and the powerhouse will be located at Marsyangdi-3, at the confluence of Siurung and Marsyangdi rivers of Arkhalebesi. The water will be discharged into the powerhouse by constructing a dam on the Marshyangdi River with the help of 5,142 meters long headrace tunnel and a 426-meter long penstock pipe.
The construction period of the project is about 40 months, as per the company. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 33 billion.
Earlier, the capacity of the project was identified as 138 MW and the environmental impact assessment report was approved accordingly. However, as the area where the powerhouse and tailrace of the proposed project will be affected by the reservoir of the Upper Marsyangdi ‘A’ Hydropower Project, the project was re-studied after which it will generate only 102 MW of electricity.
