Price Of Cardamom Rises To Rs 44,000

The price of dried cardamom has increased significantly compared to last year. The price per 40 kg of cardamom has reached Rs 44,000. Last year, such price stood at Rs 32,000. This is 27 percent more than the previous year. The price of cardamom has gone up due to declining production in Nepal and Sikkim of India.

The price of cardamom, which was Rs 20,000-22,000 per 40 kg three years ago, has been gradually increasing since then. Many farmers have started cultivating cardamom after earning lucrative income. Since then, cardamom cultivation has expanded and production has increased.

Cardamom is being cultivated in 14,700 hectares in 40 mid-hill districts of Nepal. Statistics show that cardamom cultivation is expanding from Ilam, Panchthar and Taplejung in the east to Achham, Dodi and Baitadi in the west.
