Oxford University to not accept funding from Huawei

January  18, 2019 | Investopaper

One of the prestigious universities of the world, Oxford University, on Thursday said in a statement that it has stopped accepting  funding from China’s Huawei Technologies. Huawei Technologies is one of the leading global supplier of telecoms network equipment.

Furthermore, the university said that the  decision was made after studying the company’s relationship with Chinese government. It was also based on the public concerns raised in recent months over UK partnerships with Huawei.

The university statement goes like this:  “Oxford University decided on January 8 this year that it will not pursue new funding opportunities with Huawei Technologies Co Ltd or its related group companies at present,”

Responding to the statement, a Huawei spokesman told that they had not been informed of the decision by the University previously and  came into their knowledge only after the media report.
