Chandani In Kanchanpur To Become An Inter-country Economic Zone Along With The Construction Of Dry Port

A dry port will be constructed at Mahakali Municipality-1 Chandani of Kanchanpur in western Nepal. On Sunday, Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Lekhraj Bhatta formally announced the location of the dry port and said that the development of the port and the inter-state economic zone would be accelerated. Stating that the door of development is open from the west, he said that employment and prosperity will be achieved through industrialization.
Kanchanbhoj, Dodhara and Chandani in Kanchanpur were the three options for the dry port connecting with India. According to the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, the best option is Chandani . 400 bighas of land will be used for construction of dry port and about 350 bighas of land will be used for inter-state economic zone.
An initiative was taken in 067 BS to build a dry port in the Dodhara-Chandani area at a distance of 387 km from Nepal’s shortest border with the Indian capital New Delhi.
Even though the cost was estimated at Rs 6 billion two years ago, now the projected cost is Rs 8-10 billion. After the construction of the port, agriculture, minerals, manufactured goods and services will be exported not only to India but also to third countries.
