10 Top performing Banking stocks in the last 3 months

Nepse index has gained more than 100 points in the last three months period. The market performed better after the new year as banking stocks rallied in the earlier phase. After BFIs started publishing their Q3 report, again the market gained points as investors poured their money on companies showing strong earnings and growth. The graph below shows the Nepse index gain during this period starting from April 11, 2019.
NEPSE INDEX
As shown in the graph, during this period, Nepse reached a maximum of 1321 points starting from 1184 points. The surge led by banking stocks at the start shifted to different sectors in this period.
BANKING INDEX
Banking index rose from 1052.12 to 1160.98 points i.e. a gain of 10.35 percent. The maximum points it reached during this period was 1197 points during the early surge period. The reason for the growth in the banking stocks was mainly due to the rumors of the forced merger to be implemented through monetary policy. Also, stocks of some bank increased after they published an outstanding quarterly report while some reported a decline too.
10 TOP PERFORMING BANKING STOCKS
The top 10 performing banking stocks during the period of the last 3 months are shown in the table below. The rows are arranged in ascending order in terms of price gain. LTP as of July 24, 2019 is taken to calculate the price difference.
Agriculture Development Bank and Mega Bank were the top gainers during this period whose stock price soared by 37.46 percent and 28.40 percent respectively. Similarly, the share price of Nepal Bank, Nepal SBI, Machhapuchre and Standard Chartered all grew by more than 15 percent in this period.
The big merger between Janata Bank and Global IME has shown the possibility of a merger between big BFIs in the coming day. Also, we are on the verge of the fourth-quarter report that will be published by the banks soon in the coming days. So, picking the stocks from the banking sector can be a good investment strategy at this point.
