Cardamom Exports Surge By 93 Percent

The export of cardamom has doubled. Exports have doubled as demand for cardamom has increased in the international market. According to the Customs Department, cardamom exports increased by 93.7 percent to Rs 8.70 billion in the first 11 months of the current fiscal year. During this period, 84.48 lakh kg of cardamom was exported.

In the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, 43.09 lakh kg worth Rs 3.46 billion was exported.

Cardamom is being cultivated commercially in districts including Taplejung, Panchthar, Ilam, Tehrathum, Sankhuwasabha, Dhankuta, Bhojpur and Gorkha. It is cultivated in 15,400 hectares of land in Nepal. Nepal produces 5,000 tonnes of cardamom annually.

Cardamom produced in the country is exported to India, Pakistan, Dubai and European countries.
