Digital Mapping Of Soil Underway, To Provide Information About Soil Quality In A Click

Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development is going to do digital mapping of soils across the country. This will make it easier to get information about the soil in any corner of the country through a single click.

Once the electronic map is ready, one can gain information about the quality of the soil by clicking on any point. About 23,000 samples have been collected from 57 districts so far and the analysis is underway. Soil testing is being done via satellite.

Nepal would be the first SAARC country to conduct electronic mapping of this soil. Even India, the largest country in SAARC, does not have such a map.

The Nepal Seed and Fertilizer Project is preparing this electronic map with the technical assistance of the international organization Cemet and the financial assistance of USAID. The mapping will be completed by the second week of Magh and will be handed over to the Ministry of Agriculture on Magh 21.

The quality of the soil is the reason for the lack of increase in production despite heavy investment in agriculture. The application of chemical fertilizers, pesticides and other crops varies from soil to soil, but due to lack of measurement, farmers are cultivating in their own way. The electrical mapping is being done for the soil all over the country as the quality of the soil will determine what to apply, where to use chemical fertilizers, where and in what weather.

Once this map is ready, it will be easy for the government to recommend as per the quality of the soil. Farmers also do not have to inspect the soil separately for planting crops. An app is ready for that. If you want to get information about the soil quality, you can know it by clicking on it.

From that electronic map, one can get information about nitrogen, phosphorus, potash, organic matter, pH, zinc and boron in the soil. The map gives close results, which will make it much easier for farmers to plant crops.
