Ghar Khola Hydropower Project (14 MW) Connected To National Grid

The 14 MW Gharkhola Hydropower Project, constructed in Annapurna Rural Municipality, Myagdi has been completed and connected to the national transmission line. The project will commence commercial electricity production within two weeks.

The construction of the project was started on Chaitra 6, 2074 BS. The target was to complete the construction by Mangsir, 2079 BS. The project has been delayed due to the corona epidemic.

An 11-meter-high dam has been built at Kurilabagar on the border of Annapurna Rural Municipality. The project has stated that 485 meters of penstock pipe has been connected from the outlet in Amila Kafal to the powerhouse. The distance from the outlet to the powerhouse is 1,200 meters and the height is 485 meters.

Myagdi Hydropower Limited is developing the project with an estimated cost of Rs 2.42 billion. NMB Bank along with NIC Asia, Kumari, and Prime Commercial Bank has invested in the project. The project is being financed through debt-equity in the ratio of 70:30. About Rs 1.69 billion will be funded by the banks through consortium lending. Similarly, the promoters (along with public) will inject the remaining 30 percent or Rs 730 million as equity.

Initially, the project was designed for 8.3 MW and later upgraded to 14 MW. The company has signed two different PPAs (for 8.3 MW and 5.7 MW) with the Nepal Electricity authority.

The electricity generated from the project would be evacuated through the NEA’s substation at Dana. The company has constructed an 8 km 33 KVA double circuit transmission line from Pokhara Bagar to Dana substation with a capacity of 220 KVA.
