June 6, 2019 | Investopaper
Huawei has struck a deal with Russian telecoms firm MTS to develop 5G technology in Russia. Chinese President Xi Jinping is on a three-day visit to Russia. Huawei was recently blacklisted by the United States claiming that the firm is a national security risk. This has ignited the trade tensions between the two countries.
MTS released a statement saying: The deal will see “the development of 5G technologies and the pilot launch of fifth-generation networks in 2019 and 2020.”
Huawei will develop 5G networks in Russia starting from the next year. This is a huge boost to the Chinese telecom company which has faced several allegations from the US and recently hit by the blacklisting of the company which restricts the US firms from performing any business activities with Huawei.
