Imports Worth Rs 8.5 Billion From Tatopani

Eight and a half billion rupees worth of goods have been imported from the Tatopani port between Nepal and China. The checkpoint, which was closed for four years due to the Baisakh 12, 2072 earthquake, came into operation on Jestha 15, 2076. Chinese goods worth Rs 8.20 billion have entered Nepal since Jestha 15.
The highest amount of content imported in the last two months are health supplies. According to the customs office, Nepal has imported Covid-19 resistant health items, electrical items, readymade garments, clothes, apples, garlic, agricultural equipment, seeds and other items. As the Tatopani checkpoint is of international standard, all kinds of materials are entering the checkpoint.
Health equipment such as PCR machine, VTM kits, ventilator, PPE set, N95 Max and sanitizer for testing Covid-19 have been imported to Nepal. Likewise, apples worth more than Rs 110 million, rice seeds worth more than Rs 45 million, agricultural equipment worth more than Rs 10 million and ambulances worth Rs 5 million have also been imported.
Health supplies and other supplies continue to arrive. According to the customs office, traders were encouraged to bring health items, electrical goods and readymade garments from the checkpoint after the quake. Even before the earthquake, electrical goods, readymade garments, clothes, apples and garlic were the most imported from the port, but when the port was closed due to the earthquake, there was no trade between the two countries.
However, revenue of Rs 1.34 billion has been collected in the current fiscal year from Jestha 15. Before the earthquake, revenue of four to five billion rupees was collected annually from the checkpoint. Besides, the annual import from China was Rs 15 billion and the export from Nepal was more than Rs 5 billion. But after the earthquake, goods have not been exported from Nepal to China so far, according to the customs office.
