Jagdulla Hydropower Project: NIFRA & HIDCL To Lead Loan Investment Facility

Nepal Infrastructure Bank Limited (NIFRA) and Hydropower Investment and Development Company Limited (HIDCL) are preparing to take the lead for the loan investment in the 106 MW Jagadulla Hydropower Project to be constructed in Dolpa. NIFRA, HIDCL, Rastriya Banijya Bank, and Employees’ Provident Fund have already discussed at various stages to invest in the project.
The estimated construction cost of the project according to the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is Rs. 19.90 billion. Earlier, the cost was estimated at Rs 22 billion.
Jagdulla Hydroelectric Project (JHEP) is the storage type peaking run-of-river project. The project has an installed capacity of 106 MW and is situated in Jagdulla and Mudkechula Rural Municipalities of Dolpa District.
The project aims to generate electricity by constructing a 7.1 km underground tunnel and dumping it in the powerhouse within 300 meters. Although the work had been started with the target of generating 307 MW of electricity, the project has informed that only 106 MW of electricity can be generated due to geographical remoteness.
The powerhouse of the project will be constructed in Mudkechula rural municipality-4, Ila and dams will be constructed in Jagadulla rural municipality Ward No. 1 and 2. In the first phase, 258 ropanis of land have been acquired. The project, which has started construction as a semi-reservoir, is targeted to be completed within six years.
A 23-meter high reservoir dam will be constructed in Jagadulla rural municipality-1, Hurikot and the width of the dam will be 100 meters.
The project will be developed by Jagdulla Hydropower Company Limited (JHCL), a subsidiary company of Vidhyut Utpadan Company Limited (VUCL).
