Madan Bhandari Highway Update: About 95 Percent Complete

The construction work of Dharan-Chatara-Sindhuli-Hetauda (Madan Bhandari) highway under construction has reached the final stage. The construction work of Madan Bhandari Highway, which is the main priority of the government, has reached the stage of completion at a fast pace recently. Work on both the eastern and western sections of the highway is in full swing and more than 95 percent of the work has been completed so far.

The project has stated that about 95 percent of the roads have been constructed in both the sections of the East-West Highway passing through the inner valleys of Sunsari, Udaypur, Sindhuli and Makwanpur. A bridge has also been constructed in Bagmati.

In the eastern section, about 95 percent of the 134 km from Basaha in Udayapur to Bhiman in Sindhuli has been completed. The contract for the highway, which was expected to be completed in three years, was awarded to Kalika, Chwaschnanda, Raken JV Kathmandu in the western section and ZIEC Sharma and Lama JV in the eastern section. The 11 meter wide road is being pitched in two layers. The first layer will be pitched at a width of 11 meters and the second layer will be pitched at a width of 7 meters.

The agreement was reached on Karthik, 2073 BS for the construction of the project. With several extension, the project was expected to complete by Falgun, 2077 BS. However, the construction period was yet extended several times due to corona.
