June 4, 2021 | Investopaper

Water from Melamchi will not be distributed in Kathmandu Valley for almost a month from now. The water supply is being disrupted as the tunnel is being emptied and inspected.

When the contract was signed with the Chinese construction company Sino Hydro two years ago, it was mentioned in the working procedure that the tunnel would be filled with water and emptied again. It would take 30 to 40 days to bring water again if no problem is found while inspecting the tunnel

Melamchi water was brought to Kathmandu for the first time about three months ago. In the first phase of the project, 170 million liters of water has been coming to Kathmandu daily from Melamchi since last Falgun. The construction is being carried out to bring an additional 170 million liters of water daily. The government has allocated Rs. 3.51 billion for the project in the coming fiscal year.
