Over 5000 Metric Tons Of Food Items Sold During Lockdown

Food Management and Trade Company Limited and Salt Trading Corporation Limited have sold 5,414 metric tonnes of food items during the shutdown period. As per the demand of the local level, the company has sold 4,333 metric tonnes of rice and the corporation has sold 1,081 metric tonnes of food items as relief.
Salt Trading sold 688,980 kg of rice, 109,955 kg of pulses, 78,213 kg of salt and 53,886 liters of oil during the shutdown, said Information Officer Kumar Rajbhandari. According to him, 68,370 kg of chewing gum, 17,400 kg of sugar, 400 bags of flour, 63,082 soap, 100 kg of tea, 550 kg of tofu and a total of 1,080,643 kg of food and other items have been distributed as relief.
The corporation has been distributing food items and other items online at various places in the Kathmandu Valley and online through mobile service shops in Lalitpur, Kalimati, Satungal, Koteshwor, Bhaktapur and Banepa during the lockdown period.
Food items are being distributed through three mobile vans daily in Kathmandu Valley and nearby districts. The corporation has been delivering food home through mobile vans keeping in mind the consumers who are facing problems due to the lockdown. Iodized salt is being sold at simple, easy and affordable prices from 24 offices and dealers appointed by them as well as 57 depots and sales centers in remote districts.
Similarly, the food company has been selling food items at Ramshahpath, Nakhu, Thapathali, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur in Kathmandu Valley as well as mobile vans and online as per the demand of the consumers.
The company has been providing online home delivery service in the first phase since Chaitra 26, keeping in mind the consumers who are facing problems due to the lockdown. The company has been selling rice, Karnali beans, three types of pulses and ghee of Dairy Development Corporation (DDC) through home delivery, said Netra Prasad Subedi, chief executive officer of the company. According to him, the company has been distributing food items from eight zonal offices, modern rice factories, 26 branch offices in different parts of the country including Rajapur and 59 depot offices / sales centers and cooperative dealers in remote districts.
