Eighty Five Percent Work Of 54 MW Super Dordi ‘B’ Hydroelectricity Project Completed

The main tunnel of the 54 MW Super Dordi ‘B’ Hydropower Project under construction has been dug. The project has broken through a 5.1 km main tunnel. With this, 85 percent construction work of the project has been completed. 1,100 meters of penstock pipe is being connected except the tunnel. The construction work of the civil structure of the powerhouse has been completed and the equipment is being connected.

Super Dordi ‘B’ Hydroelectricity project is under construction at Dhodeni of Dordi Rural Municipality, Ward Number 6, in Lamjung district. People Hydropower Company is constructing the project which is the biggest among the projects in the Dordi Corridor.

The project was set to be complete in Falgun, 2076 BS.  However, the construction work was affected by the earthquake, blockade, severe flood damage in the Dordi river, and the COVID-19 epidemic.

The company signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) on Falgun 20, 2071 BS. Initially, the project was studied as a 49.6 MW project. Later, the project was revalued to generate 54 MW of electricity.

The company has estimated to generate 286.4 million units of electricity annually from the Run-off-River technology project. The generated electricity will be connected to the Kirtipurbensi substation of the corridor transmission line. The transmission line project up to the substation is being constructed by the company itself. There will be 20 towers in the 6 km long transmission line. The project has stated that the construction of 5 towers has been completed.

The total estimated cost of the project is Rs 8.8 billion and the per megawatt cost is Rs. 163 million. Nine banks have put in loan investment under the initiation of Sanima Bank Ltd. Seventy percent of the project cost is loan investment while the remaining thirty percent is the equity investment. Locals of the affected areas in the district have alone invested Rs 270 million.
