Super Nyadi Hydroelectric Project (40.27 MW) to Generate Electricity by Ashad Next Year

The Super Nyadi hydroelectric project, a 40.27 MW project located along the Gandaki River in Lamjung, is nearing completion with construction progress currently standing at 72 percent. Scheduled to commence electricity generation by next year, initial production is targeted for Ashad, despite facing challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic, floods, and supply disruptions from India.

The project commenced the construction work from Magh 2076 BS, of which Civil construction works is headed by RK Hydro and supported by Global Hydro Ltd. from India for electro-mechanical tasks, alongside Nepal’s Precise Hydro Pvt. Ltd. for hydro-mechanical responsibilities. AES Construction Pvt. Ltd. is overseeing the installation of critical transmission lines to ensure efficient power distribution.

The project is financed through a Rs. 5.25 billion loan from NMB Bank, supplemented by Rs. 1.75 billion in equity, with 75 percent of the funding provided by the bank and the remaining 25 percent through equity.

Electricity generated by the Super Nyadi project will be transmitted over an 11-kilometer line to reach the Nepal Electricity Authority’s Tarikuna substation via a 132 kV transmission line. Under the purchasing power agreement (PPA), electricity rates are set at Rs. 4.80 per unit during the rainy season and Rs. 8.40 per unit during the dry season.
