Upper Phawa Khola Hydropower Project to Begin Commercial Electricity Generation within a Month

Unitech Hydropower Company Limited has successfully initiated the generation of 5.8 MW of electricity from the Phawakhola, situated along the border of Sirijangha and Pathibhara Yangwarak Rural Municipality of Taplejung district.

Upper Phawa Khola hydropower project has completed the successful testing of the power house, with commercial production scheduled to commence in a month. The electricity produced will be transmitted to the 132 kVA Amarpur substation. The generation process involves creating an intake in Tiringe, conveying it to Dumrise through a 4000-meter header pipe and a 400-meter penstock, and finally utilizing a power house at the site.

The project, initiated in the 2076 BS, was completed at a cost of Rs. 1.3 billion . Prior to this, Siwani Hydro Power completed a 5-megawatt project from Phawakhola, and an additional 2.5-megawatt project was developed in the same location.

The electricity generated from the Kabeli river and Phawakhola, flowing along the border of Taplejung and Panchthar, is transmitted to the Amarpur substation, resulting in a total electricity production of 54 megawatts in the region.
