Prime Minister inaugurate Upper Trishuli 3A Hydroproject on Monday

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Barsa man Pun jointly inaugurated the Upper Trishuli 3A hydropower project on Monday.

Prime Minister from the ‘action room’ of the Prime Minister’s office in Singha Durbar and Energy Minister from the project site at Simle of Kispang Rural Municipality in Nuwakot inaugurated the project.

Upper Trishuli 3 ‘A’ has started commercially generating the electricity from Monday. Although the project started generating electricity 5 months ago, commercial production was initiated starting from Monday. It is a 60 MW project and contributes almost 8 percent of power consumption in Nepal.

Phadindra Raj Joshi, the project chief has informed that the project has received the taking over certificate. The project will run in full capacity for 9 months. Likewise, for the remaining 3 months period, the project will generate 45 MW electricity.

Out of the total electricity generation, 30 Megawatts electricity each will be produced from the two units. The first unit that produced 30 MW electricity was first linked to the national grid on My 17. Likewise, the second unit producing 30 MW electricity was linked on August 2.

The project began construction in 2011. However, due to the earthquake in 2015, it was delayed by 22 months. The total investment in the project until its completion stands at almost Rs. 14 billion.
