The Department of Foreign employment has made it compulsory for youths going for foreign employment to provide proof of a bank account in order to get labor approval. This has come into effect from Monday. The reason behind taking this step is to monitor remittance, service charge and fraudulent activities involved in foreign employment. Besides, this will also help to ease all other financial transactions related to government assistance in foreign employment.
Foreign Employment Department has informed that the worker can either open the bank account in their name or under the name of the nominee or hence provide the proof in order to get labor approval. The department has also stated that the account can be opened in any of the commercial and development banks which are approved by NRB.
The director-general of the department, Mr. Bhisma Kumar Bhusal made it clear that the worker has to upload a certified copy of the bank account with bank number in the Foreign Employment Information Management System (FEIMS) to apply for a labor approval.
The department has also clarified the three advantages to the workers after opening the bank account. Firstly, the worker will pay the service charge to the manpower through the same account and the manpower cannot receive the amount from any other account except this. On the other hand, the worker will be sending the money to this account as a remittance which will make it transparent. Lastly, if anything happens to the foreign worker, the foreign employment board will provide financial assistance through the same bank account.
