Kathmandu-Terai Fast Track Project: Only 16.21 Percent Complete

The construction of the Kathmandu-Terai Fast Track project, which is listed as a project of national pride, has been completed only 16 percent in the first three years. According to the schedule of the first phase, the construction of this project was to be completed by Bhadra, 2078 BS. However, the work of important sections including tunnels and bridges, which are considered important apart from soil cutting and filling, has not started yet.
So far, the overall progress of the project has been limited to 16.21 percent. The overall financial progress of the project has been only 9.25 percent. The Nepal Army has so far spent Rs 16.66 billion for the project. The project aims to complete the fast track construction by 2080/81 BS.
At present, the construction work of the project is being divided into 11 different clusters. The project is being constructed based on EPC, design and build and unit rate contract. It is planned to construct the tunnel, bridge and expressway of the project together.
As per the schedule, the expressway was to be completed by Bhadra, 2078 BS. The government had handed over the responsibility of fast track construction to the Nepal Army. The length of the fast track road connecting Kathmandu to Terai is 72.5 kilometers. Out of which, 55.5 kilometers of roads, 10.59 kilometers of bridges and 6.41 percent bridges have to be constructed.
