November 29, 2020 | Investopaper

The Uppallo Khimti and Upper Khimti will generate 19 MW of electricity. The Khimti River flowing through the border of Dolakha and Ramechhap will generate a total of 19 MW of electricity through the construction of 12 MW Uppallo Khimti I and 7 MW Upper Khimti II.

Himalayan Urja Bikas Company, the developer of the project, informed that the project will start generating electricity as all the work has been completed and the work of connecting the equipment has reached the final stage. The project aims to start generating electricity by the end of Mangsir as the work of electrical equipment in the first project will reach the final stage this week and the work of penstock pipe in the second project is in the final stage.

Power houses have been constructed at Chuchure of Ramechhap by diverting the river flowing through the border of Dolakha district and Ramechhap. The construction and broadcasting of the project will affect Mali, Shyama, Jiri, Hawa Chyama and Sahare VDCs of Dolakha district while Chuchure, Thosee, Rasnalu and Betali VDCs of Ramechhap will be affected.

The total cost of the project is estimated at Rs. 3.15 billion. Nabil Bank, Nepal Bank, Everest Bank and Ace Development Bank (Now Nepal Investment Bank) have invested Rs. 2.35 Arba in these projects. It is said that the cost estimate has increased due to untimely completion of the project. Himalayan Urja Bikas Company has already issued ordinary shares worth Rs. 24.75 crores two years ago.

The project, constructed by Himalayan Urja Bikas Company, had set a target of generating electricity by Ashad end 2075 BS, but it has been delayed for two years due to lack of transmission line. The electricity under construction from the project will be connected to the substation under construction in Garjang. Another Khimti Gerjang 132 KV transmission line is under construction. If the work of the transmission line is delayed, the daily generated electricity will be wasted and crores of rupees will be lost from the income. Equipment of Japanese Toshiba Company has been connected to the power house of the project. A team of Indian technicians has been working on the equipment connection.
