Leakage In Distribution Reduced To 9.10 Percent

Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has reduced the leakage towards distribution to 9.10 percent. In the first five months of the current fiscal year 2078/79,  NEA has reduced the leakage through the regular campaigns for power supply and technical and non-technical leakage control.

NEA has managed to reduce the accumulated leakage towards distribution by 2.82 percent this year as compared to Mangsir last year. The leakage towards distribution till Mangsir last year was 11.92 percent. The largest part of the leakage in the system is towards distribution.

NEA has targeted to reduce the overall system power leakage to 15.5 percent and distribution leakage to 9.5 percent in the current fiscal year. Leakage control has resulted in measures such as increasing the capacity of substations, adding conductors, replacing overloaded transformers and promoting the use of three-phase meters.

Among the distribution centers under NEA’s seven provincial offices and two provincial division offices, the highest power leakage is in Madhesh Provincial Office, Janakpur. The overall electricity leakage of 23 distribution centers under the Provincial Office Janakpur is 12.99 percent. It was 17.36 percent in the previous year. 

The Malangwa distribution center in Sarlahi has the highest leakage of 43.82 percent. Last year, the power leakage of the Malangwa distribution center was 10.17 percent. The power leakage at Simraungadh Distribution Center in Bara was 39.80 percent. Last year, the leakage rate was 53.07 percent.

Out of the 20 distribution centers under the Bagmati Provincial Office, Kathmandu, the Sindhupalchowk distribution center has the highest leakage of 31.93 percent. Last year, the leakage rate was 25.12 percent.

Of the 13 distribution centers under the Gandaki Provincial Office Pokhara, the highest leakage is in the Myagdi distribution center. The leakage has dropped to 15.55 percent this year from 18.92 percent last year. 

Out of the 11 distribution centers under the Lumbini Provincial Office Butwal, the highest leakage is 25.56 percent in Taulihawa (Kapilbastu) Distribution Center.

The Rukum (West) distribution center has the highest leakage among the 11 distribution centers under the Karnali Provincial Office Surkhet. The leakage has dropped to 27.13 percent this year from 31.25 percent last year.  

Similarly, Achham distribution center has the highest leakage of 20.44 percent among the 11 distribution centers under the Attariya provincial office of the Sudurpashchim Province.
