The Nepal Drug Entrepreneurs Association, Parsa chapter has shut down all medical drug stores in the district, in protest against the alleged police torture against the chapter chair. The NDEA Parsa Chair Tajuddin Ansari was mistreated and his motorcycle seized by police as he had gone to purchase vegetables on Saturday.

“We were forced to close down our service, as the local administration ignored our repeated plea to stop the mistreatment of drug entrepreneurs during the lockdown,” the Association’s State-2 General Secretary Papu Jha said.

As a result, the consumers are affected due to the closure of all medical stores in the district. This may even lead to a risk to the life of people for not being able to buy essential medicines, consumer rights activists have warned.

Meanwhile, assistant Chief District Officer of Parsa Lalit Kumar Basnet said that the motorcycle was impounded for violating the ban put on using vehicles to purchase food supplies.

He also said that a discussion was underway with the Association office-bearers to open the medical stores immediately.
