Online Approval Of Labor Permit To Restart From January 1

Workers going for foreign employment will be able to get a work permit through online again. According to the Department of Foreign Employment, online labor permit will start from January 1, 2021. Currently, workers are required to be present at the office of the department in Kathmandu regardless of their destination country for re-employment.
Workers have been complaining about the problem of having to be physically present. As per the department, provisions have been made to re-issue labor permit online. Those who go for foreign employment for the first time must get a two-year work permit. After that period, the labor permit has to be taken again.
Workers will have to pay the amount of term life insurance online to get the labor permit. After paying the amount of the welfare fund through online, they will be able to apply for labor abroad. Workers currently employed abroad will be able to use this facility.
To get the labor permit, one has to go to the Department of Foreign Employment’s website and fill out an online labor permit form. After filling the form, the online branch should be selected. If the online application is rejected, the worker will receive the information through SMS in his/her mobile number. Therefore, the department has stated that the workers have to fill in their mobile number and email address correctly while applying.
Only those who go for foreign employment with a labor permit can get employment in the destination country. Among the deaths, mutilations and illnesses in the destination country, the government provides facilities only after obtaining labor permit.
Foreign Employment Board provides Rs. 700,000 to those who have died in the destination country while the labor permit is maintained. Similarly, the board also provides financial assistance of up to Rs. 7 lakh per person to the sick and disabled. One has to deposit Rs. 1,500 for a two-year labor permit and Rs. 2,500 for a labor permit for more than two years.
In order to get the work permit online again, the worker must have obtained the work permit once by doing biometric (eye scan or fingerprint scan) through the online system of the department.
