Nepal’s secondary stock market will remain closed for almost two weeks after the government’s violent crack-down on the Gen Z movement triggered nationwide curfews and an unprecedented wave of arson and vandalism.
Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) announced late Friday that trading, halted since 9 September (Bhadra 24), will not resume until Sunday, 20 September (Ashwin 5).
NEPSE spokesman Murahari Parajuli said the closure was approved by the Securities Board of Nepal at the request of stock-brokers and three major investors’ associations.
Investors, meanwhile, are bracing for a volatile reopening once the dust settles.
