Tourists arrival in Nepal increases by 25% in 2018

In 2018, the tourists’ arrival in Nepal has increased by 24.77% from the previous year. A total of 1,173,072 visitors visited Nepal in 2018, as per Department of Immigration. Out of total tourists, 969,287 visitors came by air and 203,785 came overland.

About 17% of total tourists visit was from India. 200,438 Indian tourists visited Nepal in 2018, a 25% increase over the previous year. In 2017, only 160,268 Indian tourists visited Nepal. Likewise, Tourists from Sri Lanka and China saw a major increase in 2018. Tourists from Sri Lanka and China increased by 55.66% and 46.76% in 2018. Total tourists’ arrivals from SAARC countries grew by 26.4 % as compared to last year with total tourist arrivals of 301,963.
The total number of US tourists arrival in Nepal in 2018 was 91,785, an increase of 16 % over the figures of the previous year. While, the number of Australian tourists to Nepal in 2018 stood at 38,408, which is 15.1 % more than in 2017. Likewise, the total tourist arrivals from Europe to Nepal in 2018 reached 243,284 with a growth of 23.3%.
