6.42 MW Upper Malung ‘A’ Hydropower Project In Final Stage Of Construction

The Upper Malung ‘A’ Hydropower Project under construction in Somdang, bordering Rasuwa and Dhading, is 98 percent complete. The construction work of the project, with 6.42 MW capacity, has reached the final stage and the work of the transmission line will be started after Tihar, as reported by the project. The construction of the project was delayed due to earthquake, blockade, change of contractor, rain and snow.

The deadline has been extended three times so far as the construction could not be completed within the stipulated time limit. The construction work of the project was started in 2069 BS. The project is being constructed in run-of-river system. The project claims that it can generate electricity at full capacity even during winter.

At present, 12 hydropower projects are being constructed in the district. Projects are being constructed in Timure, Chilime, Haku, Saramathali, Syaphru, Malung and Yarsa. According to the Department of Power Development, projects with a minimum capacity of 5 MW to 216 MW are being constructed in the district that will generate 588.72 MW of electricity.
