As the biggest festival, Dasain approaches near, the prices of fruits and vegetables have soared lately in the Kathmandu valley.
Due to the ineffective monitoring, prices have surged, as said by the Kalimati Fruits and Vegetables Market Development Board.
The prices of Onion, tomato, local beans, red potato, eggplant, and other vegetables have increased sharply in a period of two weeks. Onion is selling at more than Rs. 125 per kg in retail price in Kalimati. Likewise, tomato and red potato are selling at Rs. 85 and Rs. 73 per kg respectively.
The sharp rise in the prices of vegetables is due to poor inspection of the market, as said by Madhav Timilsina, president of Consumers’ Right Investigation Forum. The middlemen have increased the prices by taking advantage of the ineffective monitoring by the government, he further added.
