Sagar Lamichhane of Kavre, working at a cow farm in Cheongdo of South Korea, has completed his holiday. He had returned to Nepal on a month-long leave but was stuck back due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
When Lamichhane informed his company about not being able to resume work due to the lockdown, the owners have asked him to return immediately or resign. More than 800 Nepali workers like Lamichhane have been stuck in Nepal as they were on a leave or had changed the place of work.
Hence, they are all concerned about the risk of losing the job they got after a huge struggle. Meanwhile, considering this situation, some Nepali associations here have submitted a memorandum to the Government of Nepal, requesting to return Nepali workers to Korea. The memorandum was handed over to Charge d’affaires at the Nepali Embassy in Seoul, Ram Singh Thapa.
“The Government of Nepal should take this matter seriously, as this will not only deprive the Nepali workers of their means of livelihood but also millions of remittance for the country,” said honorary ambassador of Nepal Tourism Board in Seoul KP Sitoula. The Korean companies may not wait for the Nepali workers, if they do not return on time.
