12,000 Metric Tons apples produced in Jumla this year

The District Agriculture Development Office reports that more than 12,000 metric tones apples were produced in Jumla this year. This is the highest production of apple in the past two years period.

Jumla alone has supplied 6,500 metric tons apples, according to the data up to mid-October. Through the sale of these apples, the farmers have generated about Rs. 34.20 crores as income.

Balakram Devkota, Chief of the District Agriculture Development Office, said that the income from apple farming this year has exceeded by almost Rs. 17 crores, in comparison to last 2 years. In 2074/75, income from apple sales stood at Rs. 16 crores while in 2075/76, the sale was around Rs. 17 crores.

In Jumla, about 16,500 households depend on apple farming. A farmer generates income up to Rs. 6 lakhs from farming of apples.

Jumla has 39,435 hectares of cultivable land. Apples were produced in only 1,447 hectares land out of 3,700 hectares cultivated. In the district, an average farmer produces 8.25 metric tons of apples.
