Construction Of 50 MW Marsyangdi Besi Hydropower Project Begins

A 50 MW Marsyangdi Besi hydropower project has been started in Marsyangdi where two large hydropower projects have been constructed earlier. The Marsyangdi Besi Hydropower Project is being constructed with Besisahar Municipality-10 and Ward No. 6 as the main affected areas. The construction process of the project has been moved forward by managing power purchase agreement (PPA) and investment.

The project, surveyed by Divyajyoti Hydropower a decade ago, sold shares to a Chinese company. The Chinese company China Chongqing Online Herbal Company Limited will invest 98 percent in the 50 MW Marsyangdi Besi Hydropower Project to be constructed by Divyajyoti Hydropower Pvt. Ltd.

The project signed the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) on Bhadra 10, 2075 BS. The company aims to complete the project before 2084/085 BS. Total estimated cost of the project is Rs 8.66 billion.

Electricity will be generated by constructing a 6.65 meter tunnel and a dam near Bensisahar Municipality-6, Belautibisauna, placing a penstock pipe of 315 meters and constructing a semi-underground house under Besisahar Municipality-10 Saldanda. The project will have two 25/25 MW Francis turbines. The generated power will be connected to Udipur substation to be constructed at a distance of 5 kilometers from the power house.

The project has estimated to generate 321.15 gigawatt-hours of energy annually. It will generate 65.50 gigawatt-hours in the dry season and 258.65 gigawatt-hours in the rainy season.
