Upper Dordi ‘A’ Hydropower (25 MW) To Generate Electricity Within Dashain

The Upper Dordi ‘A’ project in Dordi Village Municipalilty-6 Dhodeni of Lamjung has completed the construction work. As per the project, after the testing, the electricity generated from the project will be connected to the national grid within Dashain.

Liberty Energy Hydropower Company is developing the Upper Dordi ‘A’ Hydropower Project with a capacity of 25 MW. Construction has been started since 2071 BS. The project has stated that the construction could not be completed on time due to the undeclared blockade, catastrophic earthquake, transmission line problems, corona epidemic and floods.

The project is estimated to cost Rs. 677 million more due to the extension of the construction period of the project. Despite the target of completing the construction with an investment of Rs. 3.96 billion during the construction of the project, it has increased to Rs. 4.64 billion at present. The cost of the project is estimated at Rs. 185.4 million per megawatt. The company has stated that the project will generate 136.784 million units of electricity annually.

The project has stated that the water of Dordikhola is discharged from the dam site Lodo Khola through a 2,700 meter long underground tunnel and a 2,700 meter long penstock pipe.

The project is expected to generate 25 MW of electricity in twos of 12.5. A power purchase agreement (PPA) has been signed between the promoter Liberty and the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) to purchase the electricity at Rs 8.40 in winter and Rs 4.80 in rainy season.

The electricity generated from the project will be connected to the substation of 132 KV double circuit being constructed by Nepal Electricity Authority in Kirtipur.

Only five projects in the Dordi corridor including this project are under construction in the district. Most of these projects are preparing to generate electricity within this fiscal year. After the construction of all these projects, tens of million units of electricity will be generated annually.

The district has already generated electricity from half a dozen hydropower plants and connected it to the national transmission line. Similarly, more than a dozen projects are under construction in the district.
