June 2, 2021 | Investopaper

The 456 MW Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project will start generating electricity by third week of Ashad, 2078 BS. Technical testing of the project’s most sensitive and challenging 822-meter main shutoff valve and main inlet valves connected to six units has been successfully completed. The project has 6 units. Each unit will generate 76 MW of electricity.

The cost of the project has reached Rs 79 billion including interest. The project, which was started in FY 2067/68, had estimated an initial cost of Rs. 35 billion. But the cost has more than doubled since the construction was not completed on time. So far, Rs 52 billion has been spent on the project. The interest of the project alone has reached Rs. 27 billion.

The target was to complete the construction by 2073/74. But due to the blockade and earthquake of 2072 BS, the construction could not be completed within the stipulated time.
