Finance Minister To Present Budget For Fiscal Year 2077/78 Today

The Government of Nepal is presenting the annual budget for the Fiscal Year 2077/78 BS in the Federal Parliament on Thursday. On behalf of the government, Finance Minister Dr. Yuvaraj Khatiwada will present the budget in the joint sitting of the federal parliament.

The Parliament Secretariat has informed the members of both the houses for the meeting where the budget will be presented at 4 pm. The secretariat has also requested to enter the meeting room at 3.45 pm. There is a constitutional provision that the budget of the government’s income and expenditure for the new fiscal year should be presented in the joint house of parliament on Jestha 15.

The government is focusing its budget on mitigating the multifaceted effects of the corona virus (COVID-19) risk. Finance Minister Dr. Khatiwada has already given information in the House that the budget will focus on operating with minimal economic activity and avoiding the effects of the Corona epidemic. The budget has been prepared keeping job creation, construction and strengthening of infrastructure in the health sector as the main priority. It has been mentioned in the policy and program that there will be a change in the format of the Prime Minister employment program for employment.

During the pre-budget discussion, the lawmakers called for increased investment in agriculture, health, education and tourism. He suggested increasing investment in such sectors including employment generation programs. The Parliament Secretariat is preparing to pass the budget to be presented in the House by Jestha 26. The theoretical discussion of the budget will start from Jestha 18 for two days. Immediately, the ministry is preparing to start discussions from Jestha 21 or 22 by shortening the existing procedures.
