The work of the Dordikhola Hydropower Project under construction in Lamjung is about 96 percent complete. Himalayan Power Partner Limited (HPPL) is developing the project and plans to generate electricity from Chaitra this year. The 27 MW of electricity will be added to the national transmission line from the project.
Some mechanical, electro-mechanical, pipe laying and tunnel work remains to be done. Of these, pipe laying and tunneling can be completed within a week. Out of the 3,200 meters of pipe laying, 3,100 meters has been completed and now only 100 meters is left, according to the project.
The project, which started construction in 2072 BS, had set a target of generating electricity on Bhadra 15, 2075 BS. However, there was delay in construction due to blockade, damage to machinery by the infiltration of water from the Marsyangdi River in the previous rainy season and current COVID-19 turmoil.
Himalayan Power Partners had signed a PPA agreement with Nepal Electricity Authority on Ashar 1, 2069. As per the agreement, NEA will purchase electricity at Rs 8.40 in dry season and Rs 4.80 in rainy season. The project had initial estimation cost of Rs 3.86 billion. However, the cost is likely to increase to more than Rs. 4.23 billion until the completion of the project.
